NH Law About... Small Claims

Introduction to... Small Claims

Update July 21, 2017.

Small claims court is intended to be a simple, speedy, and informal procedure. Attorneys are allowed to handle small claims cases but more often parties represent themselves. In New Hampshire, small claims cases are filed in the District Division of the Circuit Court. The Division's website has extensive information about small claims including definitions, checklists, forms, and electronic filing (efiling).

Nolo's Everybody's Guide to Small Claims Court, which we mention below, is intended for non-lawyers and is very helpful but it isn't specifically about New Hampshire law so researchers should be sure to check the District Division's website as well.

Please remember that this guide is for information purposes only and is not comprehensive. It is intended as a starting point for research, to illustrate the various sources of the law, and to provide guidance in their use. NH Law About ...  is not a substitute for the services of an attorney.
